HINT.GENT Innovation sprint 2025 Recap
On October 23 and 24, the first edition of the HINT.GENT Innovation Sprint took place — our short hackathon aimed at developing new innovations in AI for healthcare.
After the welcome session, the sprint kicked off with an inspiring keynote by Andrés Vásquez Quintero, co-founder of Azalea Vision, who shared the story of how Azalea Vision grew from a research idea into a successful start-up.

Following introductions, Prof. Femke De Backere gave a short session on the Design Thinking Method, after which teams spent a day and a half developing innovative AI ideas for healthcare using Miro.

They also outlined a funding application or business plan for their concept. Throughout the sprint, participants were guided by coaches and experts in AI, healthcare innovation, funding applications, and business development.

The event concluded with a pitching workshop by Prof. Tom Braekeleirs, followed by 5-minute pitches to jury members Wim Dewispelaere (UGent) and Tom Smets (Qbiq).

The team behind Oncore (Bruno Verhasselt, Alexander Decruyenaere, Paloma Rabaey and Sebastiaan de Oude) received the award for the most innovative and viable idea of the HINT.GENT Innovation Sprint 2025 — congratulations to all participants for their enthusiasm, great atmosphere, and creative ideas!
