On Tuesday 28th of January, the Education Innovation Team of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UGent and Health Intelligence Network Gent (HINT.GENT) brought together experts from various medical disciplines for a roundtable discussion on the learning needs related to AI in healthcare. Prof. Lieven Danneels outlined how this aligns with UGent’s vision on training healthcare professionals, while Prof. Femke De Backere highlighted the crucial role of peer learning in transferring this knowledge.
In interactive focus groups, we discussed the essential knowledge and skills that doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, biomedical scientists, and other healthcare professionals need to responsibly and effectively integrate AI into their practice. The learning objectives were refined based on the practical experiences of the participating healthcare professionals, and existing AI tools already used in healthcare were mapped out.
The insights from this session mark an important step towards future-proof education in healthcare. A big shoutout to Margo Dewispelaere and Valery Labarque for their great work, and a heartfelt thank you to all participants for their valuable contributions!
